The Dutch Annual Linguistics Day (‘Grote Taaldag’) is a joint initiative of the Algemene Vereniging voor Taalwetenschap (AVT), Anéla (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Toegepaste Taalwetenschap) and the Landelijke Onderzoekschool Taalkunde (LOT).
Traditionally, the Grote Taaldag is a day on which linguists from the Netherlands and Flanders gather to update each other on current research in (applied) linguistics. At the end of the day, the festive Language Gala takes place, during which both the AVT/Anéla Dissertation Prize and the LOT Popularization Prize are awarded.
All presenters at the Grote Taaldag are invited to submit a paper for publication in Nota Bene: Journal for Linguistics in Belgium and The Netherlands.
